ABOUT US
OUR STORY began on an icy stretch of Montana Highway in December 1964.
Willard Moyer established the foundation that bears the family name in 1997 after his retirement as a longtime Powell pharmacist. He was a widower at the time after the death of his wife Gussie.
But it was a fateful event at Christmas time in 1964 that started that ball rolling. Willard and Gussie’s only child, Harold Paul Moyer, and his wife Kathleen and their infant son, Steven, were killed in a head-on traffic accident near Big Timber, Montana, as the young family was traveling home to Powell to be with his parents for the holidays. Willard and Gussie Moyer had never seen their grandson. Hearts were broken that day.
As Willards’ heart healed, he decided to commit the fruits of his life long career to the betterment of Powell.
The foundation, now the Moyer Community Foundation, grants money to charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational purposes within and for the direct benefit of Powell and its residents. Fund are restricted to Nonprofits within the physical boundaries of Park County School District # 1. Including but not limited to City of Powell, Northwest College and Park County School District #1.
